Hi Everyone,
Today I am going to be reviewing Gears of War 4!
This game is the fourth game in the Gears of War Franchise.
It stars JD Fenix, Marcus Fenix's son. This game takes place after the third Gears of War, which makes this a new Trilogy. This is especially true with Gears of War 5 being announced at the E3 Conference.
The game has them running around trying to stop the Swarm, a new enemy type introduced in this game. The heroes go around fighting different different minions, each with different traits.
There are also another group called Deebees, but I will only say this much. They are talked about in the story.
There is some cameos from the old games for the longtime fans, and a lot of lore connections too.
The game is a third person shooter, with heavy emphasis on cover. A lot of emphasis. The game has you press the A Button to go up to a piece of cover. How do you know if the piece of cover works? Simple, the game tells you. There is a little icon that lets you know that you can be in cover.
There are bunch of weapons in the game, from the famous Lancer, to the Infamous Gnasher that is always used. There are other ones too, like the Markza rifle, which comes from Gears of War: Judgment. There are some power weapons that can change the game too, kind of similar to the Halo Series. Know how to use them.
Another key part of the game is rolling around. That is also tied to the A Button. This allows for the characters to roll around and whatnot. This can prevent them from getting shot, and possibly preventing them from getting killed too. It is a very intuitive system that is very smooth, and works out well. It has also been around since the first Gears of War, and has been basically perfected in this game.
There is also a spawn protection system in Multiplayer, which is nice. This prevents the "Spawn Killed" aspect that is famous in other shooter games. It actually allows you to run away, or make a good defense if necessary.
Horde:
There is a wonderful system called Horde. It was introduced in Gears of War 2, and it is a 50 wave fight against the enemies from the campaign. It comes back in this game. The differences though are huge.
There is a class system, with EXP tied to all of the classes. This is actually awesome. How so? Well, Each class does something different, such as picking up more items to use (I'll explain in a little bit), and some give more defenses.
To buy weapons, you need a type of points. They are picked up from defeating enemies. The Scout Class gives you more points if they pick it up. That's nice, but only having that class can hurt you in the long run. That's why it is important to pick other classes too.
You can also place your own structures in this game to help you defend against the Swarm and Deebees. This idea would be nice, but there are some issues with this, which I'll explain in the Problems section.
This game is absolutely fantastic. It really is. But there are some problems.
For example, there is a player problem in the Horde mode. I love the mode. It is absolutely fantastic. But people are always leaving when the game starts, so literally only one person is in the game. This happened to me. So I ended up just quitting. That's not fun. That's boring.
The structures that I mentioned earlier do not work for this reason. The more players there are, the more likely that they work. But if everyone leaves, then this is IMPOSSIBLE. Why use points for the team when there is NO TEAM? It doesn't make sense.
There is a Season Pass. This lets you get all of the maps. I got the edition that came with the Season Pass, but it is not smart, as there is a bunch of maps, and micro transactions to begin with.
The game is really fun, outside of the few issues. The game is super fun, and Horde is amazing once there are people who will stay. I would highly encourage playing the game, even though there is also a Season Pass.

I give the game a 4 out of 5 Stars.
