Metal Gear Survive

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry that I have not been able to write a post about a review in a while. Hopefully now that College is over for a semester I can get back to writing a post about Games, and their reviews.

Today I am going to review Metal Gear Survive! It is out for the Xbox One, and PS4, and it has been out for a while. I found it at Target for less than $10 dollars, and decided to pick it up and play it.

I have played it for a few hours, and as such, I can write a smaller review on it. So, Let's Go (Pun intended).

Story:

The story is a convoluted mess. How so? Well, if you have played Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, or The Phantom Pain, then you know the story. If you haven't? Well good luck, as it gets to become a convoluted mess of a story, that doesn't make sense.

You get transported to this different dimension called "Dite", and your goal is to gather data on it and survive, with the goal being to go back to the dimension you are from. But there are several obstacles in your way, from the "Dust", to "Wanderers" (which are the enemies of this game), to the controls.

Gameplay:

The game is very smooth. Too smooth actually. The controls work to the T, so if you accidentally press the B button, you will do a different action, then if you pressed A. I know this sounds like a common sense thing, but this matters mostly if you play really fast, or have played the Metal Gear Solid games I mentioned above. A is to crouch in The Phantom Pain, while in Survive, it is the B button. The controls aren't the worst, but they can be annoying.

Also the game has a "durability" system to it. You have to create weapons (ie. Games such as Minecraft), and they have durability. It gets annoying after a while, especially when the durability decreases for your weapons.

In addition to this, in the beginning of the game, there is not many things that you can craft, as such. There are not a lot of animals, or food to eat. The water is almost impossible to make clean, which I will explain below.

The game requires you to take care of your hunger and thirst. It tells you this. And it makes you aware of it ALL OF THE TIME. It gets super annoying. I just want to play the game. But instead the game makes you take care of this through two meters that limit your stamina and health.

The game also has annoying characters like Virgil, a robot who literally has an identity crisis. The robot goes through two shifting voices that proceed to tell you how bad you are at the game. Want to explore? Well don't do it, unless you want to die. Food low? Take care of that too, or else you die.

The game does have a nice idea though of letting you know that you need to increase our food intake. How so? By shaking the screen! This is the same for water too!

Final Review:

Overall, the game is enjoyable, but it has a lot of problems. I haven't touched the Co-Op portion yet, but I hope that in the future, it will make the game a lot more fun. If it wasn't for the water and food problems, I would have a lot more fun with the game. I don't care for the story so far, but it might get better. But I wish Virgil wasn't as annoying either.

Score:

This game gets a 3 out of 5 stars

It would get more if it wasn't super annoying with food and water.
