Hi Everyone,
Today I am going to review Super Mario Odyssey! It is from Nintendo, and is for the Nintendo Switch. I am going to review the story, and the gameplay. It is a Platformer, and uses all Nintendo Controllers.
Let me tell you, the game is very unique, and intuitive. I was a big fan of it, so hopefully you will see it in the review.
Lets' a Begin (pun intended)
Super Mario Odyssey is about Mario having to save Princess Peach from Bowser. Bowser intends on marrying Peach. Mario tries to stop Bowser from kidnapping the princess, but gets kicked off of an airship.
Later on, Mario gets sent down to the Cap Kingdom, known for their hats. As a consequence, Mario goes and gets a Cap Friend literally named Cappy (corny I know). Cappy lets Mario take control of certain characters, enemies, or objects in order to find secret "Power Moons", which are the collectibles needed to save the Princess, and to venture to new "Kingdoms".
The concept itself is interesting. You have to explore each level, and use the mechanics of Cappy and the Kingdom to find more Power Moons. I wish that they didn't make you collect so many of them, especially for people who are more geared towards this story.
The story itself is done well. I do not want to spoil a lot of it, as it's a very simple story. But it is definitely worth taking a gander at.
Gameplay:
The Cap mechanic mentioned earlier is the bulk of it. Mario gets to throw Cappy to capture (heh) enemies, and use them to find secrets in the level.
I liked this mechanic a lot. I found many secrets, and got many Power Moons as a result.
Mario is also super fluid to control. He doesn't need to be forced into a certain level or section. Instead the controller lets Mario be simply controlled, and he can go into the level with ease.
I also liked the secret levels found throughout the game. They usually contained Power Moons, or extra health for that level. I am able to use it to my advantage.
I do wish that there were more enemies to capture. It would make for better platforming, and I would like it even more than I already do.
I actually give this game a 4.5 out of 5. The story is good, but not entirely for me. The gameplay though is some of the best gameplay ever. I replay the game, just to find new Power Moons.

As a kid I loved the Super Mario games! They always had unique game play (my favorites were Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Bros for Wii) and engaging art. I haven't kept up with their recent releases, but it sounds like they managed to conjure up a few more unique game elements with this release too!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched Dunkey's gameplay on it? If not, I highly recommend it if you have a sense of humor. As I have played and watched this game before I would agree that it is exciting and brings back some good past times of Nintendo gaming. It is a fun game, especially if you are joking around with friends.
ReplyDeleteI have actually. His videos are the best
