Hello Everyone,
Today I will be giving my thoughts into the beta for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
The game is for Xbox One, PS4, PC. The game is a Third-Person Shooter with PC elements in them.
I will review the story and gameplay of the beta:
You are a Ghost who gets stranded on the island of Aurora after your chopper goes down during a military operation. You then get to meet up with your fallen team, and with members of Erewhon, a group designed to help you out (and it's a hub world, yay Destiny).
The story is about you trying to solve this mystery, while figuring out that a teammate of yours named Walker is hostile, and plotting to destroy you.
The story is pretty simple, but it will most likely get nuanced very fast. There were a lot of characters to keep track in that short time, so I can see a problem of players keeping track of the characters at any given time.
The game has a LOT going for it. There is a lot of cover options, gun mechanics, etc.
You can customize your gun in many different ways, from the scope to muzzle to almost whatever. It's pretty fantastic as the gun does what YOU want it to do.
The game can be in First-Person when you aim down the sights, but that can be easily changed to Third-Person.
There are drones that can help you out with being stealthy, or you could go in guns-blazing. Sometimes the game requires stealth, which is almost more fun than the whole action sequence people are used to.
The game has a lot to do for your playstyle, meaning that you can play the way that you want to. I can't possible go into depth with everything, so I have and will do my best.
Also, the vehicles are pretty good. The driving is pretty intense for what it is, and there are a lot of vehicles to boot. The helicopter was a little annoying, but I got used to it, but the flying physics can be wonky.
The character movements are too smooth. So smooth that if you aren't doing a precise movement, the character may be doing something completely different than you would possible imagine.
That contrasts with the hub world, which is very stiff. If you are going to keep a gameplay mechanic, just make it universal for all.
There is a lot of looting in the game too. you can get different guns and loot, to which you can then get equipment, and customize your character.
I did not try the store. So I don't know how that goes.
I did try Ghost War (the PVP mode). It is fun, but you can't always see the enemy. That gamemode requires total stealth in order to win, so I could see why someone wouldn't want to play that mode.
Overall, I liked the beta a lot. I do not know if I would get the game, but it has a lot of potential for the future.
I give it a 4 out of 5

Hi Ethan-
ReplyDeleteHow do you find the time to both game and balance school and extracurriculars? Also, what could this game do differently that would lead you to give it a 5/5? Is the storyline & complication thereof your main issue?
Hi Brookyln,
DeleteI find the time to play games and balance everything by playing at night, or on the weekends when I am not busy. I do all of my work throughout the day, which lets me hang out with my friends at night. For the game itself, I don't think the story will be a problem because I could understand it, and not have to worry. I am more concerned with the gameplay, as the controls were super precise, and that could lead to issues. If that was fixed, then it could be a 5/5.
You have an impressive knowledge of all the new games! I usually avoid the newer games because they're so expensive, do you usually purchase most of the games you play (aside from the betas)? Or do you use some kind of renting program?
ReplyDeleteNormally I play games that I have. I don't like to spend a lot of money so I will either wait for deals, or play the betas that come out.
DeleteI watched some videos on the game, and it looks really good, but I am not sure if there is enough new things to do in the game to buy it for me personally. Is it something that you see yourself buying? For me, it was just the same ol' thing: A run and gun. I guess from what I saw it is a little more slower paced and strategic, which I like, but again there wasn't a whole lot new, and I didn't even watch the whole video on the game because I found it boring.
ReplyDeleteIt is slower paced, but I don't think I would buy it. I like faster pace games, so I doubt that I would buy it
