Hi Everyone,
Today I am writing about Pokemon Sword and Shield. These are the newest Pokemon games from Nintendo, and only on the Nintendo Switch.
The game was developed by Game Freak.
I will cover the story and gameplay. Not the controversies, as it actually didn't sour my experience.
Here we go!
You are a trainer in the Galar region, who has to get 8 badges to defeat the Champion. First though, you have to get an endorsement. The Champion gives you that, and you are off on your journey.
From what I have played, there is no real plot. It is just a journey to go from One Gym to another. No world to save, and no stakes at hand.
The lack of a plot is not that bad. It is designed to have a bigger focus on the gameplay.
The Game is an RPG (Role Playing Game). You take turns with your Pokemon fighting other Pokemon. The first person (NPC characters who you play against in the story) to run out of Pokemon loses.
The game has several different Pokemon types (18 in fact). Each one has a different purpose, and has different strengths and weaknesses.
You can catch so many Pokemon in the Game too. Most of my team was new Pokemon, with one old one (Gyarados for those wondering). I would be catching so many new Pokemon throughout the game. It's unreal.
The Pokemon designs are on point. They feel cool, and don't look dumb (cough* Alola *cough). I ended up catching the new guys for my team.
I NEED TO MENTION THE MAX RAIDS!!!!! They are awesome! I loved fighting new Pokemon, and catching those that Dynamaxed. More on the mechanic below. I liked the fact that the Max Raids let you play with 3 other people (4 in total), and go in on a giant Pokemon to capture. It was hard but worth it in the end.
These take place in the Wild Area, which is awesome. It shows a normal environment where Pokemon can come up to you and destroy you. It is awesome!
The Dynamax (and Gigantamax) mechanic is awesome. It only lasts 3 turns, but is surprisingly balanced. The moves are extremely powerful, but not the end of the world. A normal Pokemon can survive the attacks with ease. It all depends on how the team you are using is built.
I loved the game. I will keep playing it.
I give the game a 5 out of 5.

I have not played a Pokemon game in a long! Mostly due to not having the console needed, but they seem to be getting a lot better than that weird period around Black and White (as so I've heard). With so many fans of the games favorite of mine a long time ago and a fan, I'm glad if the games are in a good state right now!
