He's Amazing! A Spider-Man (PS4) Review!

Hello Everyone!

Today I am covering Spider-Man for the PS4. It is made by Insomniac Games (the people who made Ratchet and Clank).

As usual I will cover the story and gameplay.

Story:

You play as Spider-Man, who recently takes down the Kingpin (a super villain). As a result of this event, the game spirals down into a chaotic turn of events, featuring new villains, and new characters.

You don't just play as Spider-Man though. You also play as MJ (Mary Jane) and Miles Morales, each with their own story, and their own gameplay mechanics. Each character has a different gameplay mechanic.

The story is very strong and well written. I ended up caring about the characters that I was playing as, and that is hard for me to do normally.

Gameplay:

There is a lot to this. There is web-slinging (which took some getting use too), wall-running, combat mechanics, you name it. I felt like Spider-Man when I was playing the game. The movements were very smooth, and I could go to any location while playing as Spider-Man.

MJ was more stealthy, but had some camera mechanics to it as well. The camera took evidence of certain story elements, and it was easy to use. Her gameplay is a nice contrast to Spider-Man.

Miles Morales is 90% stealth, with 10% hacking. I liked the hacking bit, but it wasn't used often. It should have been used more.

There is a lot to do. There is crafting new upgrades, to skill trees, to solving crimes throughout the city, you name it. I liked it a lot, and it was beneficial to the game.

Overall:

I give this game a 5 out of 5. It's that good.

This blog post gave me a major throwback. Remember when video games were just a joystick with 3 colored plugs that attached to a massive box TV? I used to have a Spiderman game and this blog post just gave me flashbacks to it.

  2. Okay, I love how cute this title is. Very clever. I also really enjoyed your little throwback moment, because I may know nothing about modern gaming, but I totally got you when it comes to that joystick and the awesome colors. Such a fun thing to see!

  3. I love that they center this game around Miles Morales. Spiderman Into the Spiderverse was a phenomenal movie, and I'm glad they're putting Miles in the spotlight for this game!

  4. I played this game a couple weeks after it was released last year and had to say it was done great. I do not necessarily know if I would have given it a five out of five just because with open world games such as these they tend to get repetitive with side missions once the campaign is complete. I just wish they would release it for the Xbox because I would still buy it.

  5. Nice review! I'm going to probably get the game when it becomes cheaper. I definitely have some nostalgia for the old Spider Man games and it's about time I get a new one. I'm glad the slinging around feel smooth because that's the best part.
