Hi Everyone,
The Beta did not cover the story, even though there is one. So I will cover the gameplay solely in this review.
Gameplay:
The game is a 5v5 tactical shooter. You get to choose from several different characters, such as Phoenix and Breach. Each character has a different mechanic, and Valorant does a good job showing (in the Upper Right Corner) the skills and abilities of each character. This is perfect for new players who want to get into this game, or got a beta key from a streamer and wanted to join.
There are two phases to the game. A "Buy Phase", where the two teams can buy weapons and abilities, and plan where they want to plant the objectives. The other is the "Action Phase", where the teams get to fight to win the round.
You have to win 13 rounds to win the game. In these rounds there are two teams fighting for the objective. One team has the Spike, and they have to plant said Spike at an objective. When the attacking side plants the Spike, they have to defend it, or kill all of the defenders. Defenders have to kill all of the attackers, and defuse the Spike if necessary.
The gunplay is very smooth. There are also plenty of guns to choose from. The abilities were more character specific, which is a very good thing. Most guns have an aim down sight mechanic that made the guns more consistent (at least in my opinion), and they were more in line with a traditional shooter in that regard.
The abilities were hit or miss. I liked the ones from Phoenix the most, followed by Sage. The others were ok. None of them are truly bad, but I was just not a fan of the playstyle of a few of them. That being said, they were all well designed by Riot Games, and they will all see use in a competitive arena.
I played several games. I also tried out many different characters, and my favorite is Phoenix. He just has the best abilities.
The artstyle of the game is super cool. From the loading screen to the victory screen (shown below), everything in Valorant is well designed.
Overall:
I liked the game. It is very long, but if you played Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO), then you will like this game. It's more nuanced in my opinion than CSGO, but both are good.
I give the beta a 4 out of 5 stars.
